Annette Funicello (born Annette Funicello) was an American actor, performer and singer. She was best known for her role as one of the first "Mouseketeers" in the show 'Mickey Mouse Club.' Her career in singing began when she was an adolescent. Annette was an introverted girl who grew up in Utica with Italian immigrants. She wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment business, and quickly switched the stage and began to dance. In her role as an "Mouseketeer" in Disney's sketches, Annette gained a lot of recognition in the 1950s. Annette was able to shed her Disney image as her age increased and she began to take on adult role roles. Being one of the first performers, Annette was acknowledged for introducing the "beach" type of entertainment. Her roles included films such as How to Stuff a Wild Bikini, Pajama Party, and"Beach Party. She continued to make music albums. Annette was diagnosed as having MS in 1992.
